Have you excluded the One Who is LIGHT?

If you do or say anything God hasn’t led you to and the grace of Christ isn’t saying or doing through you, you have excluded the One Who is LIGHT, and you don't have to look for darkness since you are already walking in darkness.

Old Earth Young Earth

Pardon my levity this morning, but I just read yet another post making dogmatic claims about the age of the earth. In my mind, not only has God made such dogmatism impossible, but He has also made it unhelpful.

Anytime we try to apply science to the past we have to make assumptions or else receive divine revelation to fill in the blanks we can’t observe. We obviously can’t observe thousands of years let alone billions of years. The farther into the past we try to make up feasible stories, the more outlandish our assumptions become. If we don’t add to God’s words or diminish them, assumptions are eliminated.

From what I’ve seen, no observation by itself indicates billions of years. Even distant starlight requires assumptions to make a case for billions of years, and there are several young-earth cosmologies that work while the only old-earth cosmology, Big Bang, has serious problems. Every geological argument for an old old earth also has serious problems.

At the same time, God could have hidden billions of years somewhere that cannot be detected by observation or reading the Bible. It’s possible. And then there’s the idea of a previous creation or multiple previous creations that left no trace of evidence but that some theologians are certain must have happened.

As we go out into the realms of fantasy, I’m reminded of the little man upon the stair who wasn’t there. He wasn’t there again today. Oh, how I wish he’d go away.

That being said, for those Christians who have become atheists, the most common reason they give for no longer believing is the age-of-the-earth issue. If they only knew that the false-prophet education systems have been blowith smoke up their noses, they wouldn’t have been so quick to wander into disbelief. However, I don’t believe the age of the earth was the real issue. I believe what Jesus said about it. They don’t come to Christ because their deeds are evil. They want to do what they want to do. They don’t want to have Christ directing their lives.
