Scriptures Saying Your Own Will Cannot Save You
These passages show that human will is insufficient, unreliable, or spiritually powerless.
• John 1:12–13 — Those who are born of God are born “not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” New birth is not produced by human will.
• Romans 7:18 — “The willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.” Human will wants to do good but cannot produce it.
• Romans 8:7–8 — The flesh (human will apart from Christ) cannot submit to God and cannot please God.
• Jeremiah 10:23 — “It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.” Human will cannot guide itself rightly.
• Proverbs 3:5–6 — Do not lean on your own understanding; God directs the path.
