A ceremony can look different in different groups. For some, it’s institutionalized in books that must be followed. For others, those institutionalized ceremonies have been replaced by new ceremonies that seem more spontaneous but are not led by Christ. We can’t avoid this problem by exchanging today’s ceremony for yesterday’s ceremony. We agree with God to allow Him to lead us by His Holy Spirit, which will often be contrary to what we have always done. We get into a rut. A strong, self-assured personality may want to drag us back into the rut by going back to what it’s used to. Only listening to the voice of Christ keeps us out of the rut.
