Pay it forward? That doesn’t work because my righteousness is like filthy rags to God.

(Quote from https://realreality.org/downloads/how-god-will-transform-you/)

Some people say, “I’m going to pay it forward,” but my righteousness is like some filthy rags to God. Fake “works of piety” can be a way I feed my pride and get recognition. Fake “works of piety” are just one more way to do what I want to do instead of doing what God wants me to do.

Suppose a dad tells his son to mow the lawn. The son starts painting the house a different color instead. Has the son done the will of the dad?

Let me emphasize it again. Good works are a gift from God to you. Good works are not a gift from you to God. It’s easy to get the effect before the cause.

If I try to establish my own righteousness, I fail to conform to the righteousness of God. If I come up with my own ideas of how to please God without faith, I’ll go off course and fight against the will of God. My intent may be good, but I need Jesus Christ. He’s the Source of all Truth. Without Him, I’m already off course.
